OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

From our beginnings in the late 1990's our sole purpose has been very simple. As a community volunteer organization our mission is to work cooperatively and interactively with the community, elected officials, and state, federal, and local agencies to enhance, and improve local streetscapes, which resulted in a better environment for both the commercial and the residential areas of Westchester. You may have seen our work throughout the community for the past two decades, and as a result, your quality of life here has been enhanced...greatly!

SOUTH WELCOME SIGN
Where Lincoln Boulevard splits from Sepulveda Boulevard just north of the Los Angeles International Airport, there is a center median on Sepulveda Blvd. that is the property of the airport. In 19--- WSIA approached LAWA to ask if they would consider relandscaping the median and work with WSIA to install a new double-faced gateway sign leading into the Westchester Town Center as one travels North. They agreed.

The airport staff developed a landscape plant that was an extension of their new landscaping design for Century Boulevard. And it blended in with the landscaping plans that were developed for the new Sepulveda Boulevard Beautification project.

LAWA contracted with ---- to design and construct a new "Welcome to Westchester" sign with "Welcome to LAX" on the reverse side. WSIA worked with the airport staff in selecting the design, colors and materials to be used. Now we enjoy a beautiful welcome sign as the gateway into the Westchester Town Center.

A small concrete gateway sign had been placed on this median a number of years ago. Shirley Pfiel, a leader in the community, worked with the airport in having this sign installed.

A new asset in the beautification of Westchester.

WSIA requested the airport to preserve this sign and relocate it across the street on a mound in the park. They again agreed. After it was installed, WSIA partnered with the Westchester Vitalization Corporation to provide a bronze plaque on the sign recognizing Shirley and her husband "Bud" for their community service.

The dedication of the welcome sign included Councilmember Bill Rosentahl, airport dignitaries, WSIA and other community groups.
