OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

From our beginnings in the late 1990's our sole purpose has been very simple. As a community volunteer organization our mission is to work cooperatively and interactively with the community, elected officials, and state, federal, and local agencies to enhance, and improve local streetscapes, which resulted in a better environment for both the commercial and the residential areas of Westchester. You may have seen our work throughout the community for the past two decades, and as a result, your quality of life here has been enhanced...greatly!

WESTCHESTER PARKWAY LANDSCAPING
When Arbor Vitae Street was remodeled as an airport project and renamed Westchester Parkway in 19----, it was a tree-lined street. The project started from Airport Boulevard and extended west to Sepulveda Boulevard. New construction through the airport's North Side property extends the Parkway to Falmouth Avenue.

Through the years all but four of the trees lining the street from Airport Ave. to Sepulveda Blvd. had died. WSIA approached the airport requesting that the street trees be replaced to enhance the Parkway. The airport selected a specie commonly know as an orchid tree. It has blooms that resemble an orchid and is a specie known to not attract birds, an important safety concern for aircraft.

WSIA's plan was to extend the tree planting project to Sepulveda Boulevard. However, there were a few blocks that are not airport property.

With the assistance of Councilmember Bill Rosendahl's office, the tree planting project was extended to Sepulveda Boulevard. The Council office also expedited the replacement of broken sidewalks in this area. WSIA thanks the Los Angeles World Airports and Councilmember Rosendhal for their cooperation in this project.
